"Blue"
A drum set song I composed inspired by a melody I heard at a Blue Man Group concert.  This was designed as an exercise to promote the ability to play a melody and change the groves around it.
Quarter Note Placement
Let's start with the basics of drum set coordination.  A straight-time quarter note constant is played on the hi-hat while individual quarter notes are placed on each of the quarter note counts on both the snare drum and the bass drum.
8th Note Placement
This exercise reviews quarter note placement and recognizes the space between the quarter notes (+ counts).  Snare and kick drum notes are played on each individual 8th note count before I introduce the "quarter note rock constant".  This is one step before playing full-on rock beats.
32 Flavors of Punk
This series of rhythms cover every single rhythmic 8th note combination beneath a double-time rock constant (punk constant).

This page starts with some basic coordination exercises for playing on more than one surface, and will cover many different approaches on the way to 4-way independence.

All of the exercises below have written transcriptions available on request, and will be included in "Wielding the sticks Vol 2".
